ONE BIG
FAMILY

Over forty years ago, Sebastian Galipo had an idea: to become a ‘one-stop shop’ foodservice distributor with excellent service.
Starting with a $5000 loan, he learned as he went and grew quickly – forming Galipo Food Co. in 1983. He employed his cousin, Robby Costanzo, to help with the orders. As family does, Sebastian took Robby under his wing and showed him the ways of selling.
Five years later, Sebastian’s brother Bill gave up his career in teaching to invest in Galipo Foods. The two of them shared the same vision and single-minded attitude to success and soon the company was on an extraordinary trajectory.
Today, Galipo employs 230+ staff, using 60 trucks to supply more than 3,500 businesses across Australia. Sebastian and Bill never lost sight of what’s important and have successfully passed on this sense of dedication and commitment to excellence to all their staff, who they proudly call family.
People First,
the power of Great Staff, Customers & Suppliers.
At Galipo, we understand that foodservice distribution balances relationships with three key stakeholders: customers, suppliers and staff.
Galipo offers the highest standard of service available to customers by working with the trusted suppliers to provide the best quality products, and by having an efficient, organised operation run by team-oriented, highly motivated people who strive for excellence for their customers.

Robby Costanzo
Fleet Manager
“I was Seb’s first employee, I started in 1983 when I was 18 years old. Seb had a van to do the deliveries and I went with him to learn what to do. It was challenging but I loved the work and meeting the customers. When Australia won the America’s Cup, Seb and I were celebrating with customers by beeping the horn as we did our deliveries. Seb got so excited he stopped at a train crossing – only he was too far forward and the boomgate started coming down on the roof of the van. But we kept on cheering!
Seb asked me if I could design a logo for the company and I took on the challenge. In the first logo, I had the letter ‘G’ taking a bite out of the letter ‘A’ in the name ‘Galipo’ which Seb and I both loved.
In my 17 years of delivering, I found my strength in customer service and made lots of friends. In 1990 I was nominated in the SA Great Awards; I came second in the performance award, which was a great honour. When it was time for me to try different roles (as Warehouse Manager, the Distribution Manager, then Fleet Manager), the hardest thing was telling my customers and saying goodbye to them all.
I am so proud to see how the company has grown and I would like to thank Seb for giving me a chance and helping me become the person I am today.”
Nancy Perugini
Accounts Receivable
“When I came for a job at Galipo I was 16 and just about to start Year 12. My mum was waiting in the car as I nervously walked toward the building for the interview. I started talking to a person doing the gardening out the front. I thought he was the gardener, but it turned out to be Bill Galipo – he was getting the new premises at Stepney ready. When I had my interview with Sebastian, he got me to write in shorthand to test out my knowledge. Later, when I received the phone call to tell me I’d got the job I remember sitting on the floor in my room thinking whether I’d made a huge mistake not to finish school.
It turned out to be a great decision. I’ve had the incredible privilege of working at Galipo Foods for 35 years. My journey has been great, both professionally and personally. I have witnessed the growth and expansion of the business and I’ve been fortunate to be a part of it.
The relationships I’ve built with my fellow employees and customers have not only enriched my experience at Galipo Foods but created the family-like atmosphere which the company prides itself on.
I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given over the years and proud to be part of such a fantastic company. Congratulations, Sebastian and Bill.”
David Spangler
Purchasing Manager
“It began with my mum handing me the job ad and saying, “They’re just around the corner…” The only thing highlighted on my resumé was ‘lives close’ and ‘can work any hours’. More than 30 years later, I’m still working all hours but I don’t live as close…
The appeal has always been ‘reward for effort’, much like my parents showed me. It has to be about more than yourself. It’s about the people you work with, it’s about being able to look people in the eye and have them being able to rely on you. It’s about the reliability this company is founded on.
I was fortunate, once, to be offered a trip to the Melbourne Cup to represent the company – and it was on that trip I proposed to my wife, Vicky. The company has been involved in many facets of my life and always supportive when needed. From the births of Charlotte and Lincoln to the passing of my parents, they have always had my back.”
John Tsouvalas
Director of Sales
“I started in February 1997 after selling a takeaway business. When I managed to get a meeting with Sebastian, it lasted one and- a-half hours; Sebastian had no positions available, but he offered me a warehouse job. Years later, Sebastian told me that he was originally interviewing me for a sales role.
After two months in the warehouse, Sebastian offered me a driver’s position. I found it very challenging as I had no understanding of the city. I remember being overwhelmed during one delivery: I was running two hours late and receiving phone calls from the office asking where I was. Tony from Feather’s Fish Shop saw that I was distressed – he calmed me down and even assisted with the delivery. He said, “Hang in there, you’ll be OK,” before giving me directions to my next delivery.
In July 1997, Sebastian offered me a position in sales. I can’t thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to develop myself in this amazing industry. Also, George Toumpas assisted me and we have formed a very close friendship. When Nathan become General Manager, we worked very closely, helping to grow Galipo into the business it is today.
I’m especially proud of the fact that Galipo has been able to maintain a caring culture. Even after growing to a large independent company, we all still look out for each other. It’s one of the most enjoyable aspects of working in a family-operated business..
I’m especially proud of the fact that Galipo has been able to maintain a caring culture. Even after growing to a large independent company, we all still look out for each other. It’s one of the most enjoyable aspects of working in a family-operated business.”
George Toumpas
Foodservice Sales Manager & Operations Director
“Galipo Foods has been – and still is – a huge part of my life.
I’ve been here since April 1995, when I started as a van salesman selling Mountain Fresh Fruit Juices. I got the job after it was advertised in the newspaper and about 100 people applied. Seb and I hit it off almost straight away. He’s been like a father figure to me, teaching me how to be a better father, husband, person and co-worker.
I have also had a great relationship with John Tsouvalas from the day he started with us in 1997. We’ve become great friends and watched our kids grow through the stages of their lives. I’ve also forged strong and personal friendships with Nick T (I’m godfather to Nick’s second son, Thomas) and Nathan Narayanan over the many years we’ve worked together.
Some highlights in the company’s growth? When the Spotless Contract came on board, we were able to grow our range with new products. This was the beginning of the growth we’ve been fortunate to enjoy over the years. It also allowed us to explore other customer categories – hotels and cafés – with whom we’d previously had limited success.
When Nathan came on board as GM, it lifted Galipo Foods to the next level. His leadership and knowledge proved exceptional. You want to follow leaders like Nathan to the very end. And selling Pepsi through the Route Trade in the early days! Not only did it succeed, it provided another huge springboard to growth.
Actually, I didn’t think it would work for us – but then nor did I ever think I’d see robots picking in our warehouse!”
Nick Tsouvalas
Sales Representative & Business Development Manager
When I started in November 1999, Sebastian questioned whether I could work together with my brother, John [Director of Sales]. I said to him, “If we both respect each other’s roles we should never have a problem.” And to this day, we still have a strong working relationship.
I was first employed as a beverage rep, mainly to sell Pepsi products. After we lost Pepsi to Schweppes I was very concerned about my future, however Sebastian showed faith in me and, in late 2000, I became a food service sales representative. Over time I became our Beverage Manager, helped to start our pizza bar category and have become one of the senior sales reps. In March 2023 I started servicing Alice Springs. I’m really enjoying the challenge and get a lot of satisfaction watching this area grow for Galipo & in 2024 I took on a role as Business Development Manager.
Working for a family-owned business is a great thing – but working for a family-owned business that believes in morals, culture and mutual respect is something I find very special. To have been able to get out of Galipo what I have put in has made it both a wonderful experience and a fantastic adventure.
Tony Musolino
Driver
“It was the year 2002 and I was working across the road at place called Air Road Transport, when information was given to me about a contract opportunity at Galipo Foods. I was introduced to Sebastian and Bill, I did the induction and training and I was welcomed into the company.
Being in a tough, competitive industry, I knew that with hard work and working as a team, the company would go on to bigger and better things.
I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this company. It’s always nice to walk through the main doors and see photos from the past and the awards the company has won. I’d like to thank Seb, Bill and Nathan.”
Darren Grosser
Business & Marketing Manager
“My interview consisted of Theo (the Warehouse Manager at the time) asking me to lift a 20-litre drum of oil. He then said, ‘See you at 5am on Monday…’
On that first morning there was a buzz about the place that I’d never experienced before. The first three to four hours loading trucks was over before I knew it and I’m pretty sure I might have fallen asleep in one of my university lectures. When I had a day off uni, I would go out with one of the drivers to help with deliveries. I recall missing an item for a customer and a long Friday-night drive south to drop off a packet of squid rings. It’s moments like that when you realise how much a customer relies on us.
After I finished my Finance Degree, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do and took up full-time work in the warehouse. One of my more memorable projects was when Sebastian asked me to oversee a new contract – Domino’s Pizza. It was very exciting as we’d never had a contract of this size. Unfortunately, the other distributor was unhappy that we’d won the contract and decided to stop supplying Domino’s well before the contract date. We hadn’t stocked any Domino’s products in our warehouse, so we had to urgently source semi-trailer loads of stock from interstate. We got the products in on a Saturday morning to start delivering the same day.
Not long after this, Sebastian asked me to be his personal assistant, which was a completely different role and a unique challenge. It has been a pleasure learning from Sebastian. He’s someone who is extremely busy in his life but always makes time for you when needed. As I’ve grown into a marketing role in recent years, I’m very proud of our annual expos that I’ve organised, our staff celebrations and the way Nathan and the staff pulled together to get through COVID. I’m incredibly grateful to all the staff who have supported and helped me in my roles over the past 20 years. I’ve also really enjoyed helping with the production of this website!”

“I started with the business as a staff member helping to load trucks, which suited me while leading a student life. I progressed into the business, helping out in the warehouse as a picker while waiting for my permanent residency and hoping for better job opportunities.
I remember emailing Sebastian, hoping to catch up with him and ask for an opportunity in the accounts department… Sebastian called me one day to catch up straight after work – I was unshaven and had an earring. He said to me, “I want to put forward an opportunity for you to work in the Admin Department and want to interview you. But before the interview, I need you to go home, have a shave, remove your earring and come prepared.”
I am lucky to be surrounded by highly experienced team members. David Spangler in Purchasing and John Tsouvalas have been pivotal to my growth within the business. Sebastian, of course, helped me with the most important skill – people management.
As a team, we have the absolute belief to conquer any challenge and I will always be there to lead from the front. I will always be grateful for the opportunity that Sebastian provided me and remain very proud to be part of a team that cares like a family.”

For example, their Christmas in the Vines Supplier Fundraiser in April 2024 raised $6,500 for the foundation, while their 40th Anniversary Gala Celebration in October 2023 generated $30,000. Additionally, Galipo’s involvement in the 2002 Tour Down Under, in collaboration with Rob Kerin, Premier of South Australia, helped raise $15,000 for the cause. Through these events and ongoing support, Galipo Foods remains a steadfast partner in helping Make-A-Wish bring joy and hope to children in need.
Co-Ordinating Italian Committee Christmas Lunches for the Elderly
Sebastian and Bill Galipo cherish the memories their parents created while actively participating in Co-Ordinating Italian Committee functions and are deeply grateful for the service their parents provided to the community. Inspired by this legacy, Sebastian began hosting a Christmas Lunch for the Committee at his property in 2002, starting with just 15 attendees. Today, this cherished tradition has grown into an annual event attracting over 200 people, spread across two days to accommodate everyone. A highlight for both Sebastian and Bill, the celebration features a three-course meal prepared in-house by Galipo Foods staff, along with lively singing and dancing to the melodies of a piano accordion, creating a joyous and unforgettable community gathering.
Other Charity Donations
In early 2020, Galipo Foods, with the generous support of its customers and suppliers, raised over $25,000 to assist families who lost everything in the devastating bushfires. Similarly, in July 2019, Galipo hosted its “Christmas in the Vines” fundraiser, garnering $35,000 with the help of suppliers. These funds were used to purchase hay bales for farmers struggling amidst the severe drought, reflecting Galipo Foods’ commitment to supporting communities in times of need.

Thank you for not only supplying so many of South Australia’s businesses, caterers, cafés and restaurants with products we know, trust and love to eat, but also for your generous and heartfelt support of charities and community organisations.
The Hon. Steven Marshall MP,

Galipo Foods is another wonderful example of how smart, hardworking migrants have come to South Australia and made a success of themselves and an outstanding contribution to their new home. A commitment to excellence and innovation combined with an obvious care for their employees has transformed a humble family business into a great South Australian business, culminating in being voted Number One in Australia five times.
Congratulations to Sebastian and Bill – I’ve no doubt your families are immensely proud of you.
Rob Kerin

David Mead
Australian School Canteen Association
It’s been 11 years since Galipo and ASCA partnered—and what a journey! From day one, Sebastian and Bill were all in, setting the distributor benchmark. Galipo has won ASCA’s ‘Distributor of the Year’ more than any other in Australia. Our expo grew from 18 suppliers to a national success. Their secret? Relationships. Five days before my 60th, I received a wine bottle with my childhood photo—proof of their care and focus. I’m proud to call them ‘my bros’ and part of the Galipo family.
Frank & Helen Jackowiak
Make-A-Wish Australia
Galipo Foods has supported Make-A-Wish since the late 1980s, thanks to Sebastian’s collaboration with John Hender and me. Over the years, they’ve donated over $400,000 in funds and goods, helping fulfill the wishes of 80+ seriously ill children. From Nicky meeting Steady Eddy to Thomas visiting WiggleWorld, Zac snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and James celebrating at Adelaide Oval, Galipo’s generosity has made countless dreams come true.
Kevin Hautop
Business owner, Retired
My first introduction to Sebastian was a surprise call requesting a meeting about a new business venture. From that moment, his ambition and vision were clear. He saw opportunities others missed—like Kevron’s shift to independent supermarkets. I entrusted our non-retail customers to Galipo Foods, and together, we made it a success. Reflecting on 40 years, we’ve faced challenges, celebrated wins, and built a bond and friendship that will never fade.
Bob Birt
Bank Account Manager, Retired
I want to highlight the incredible partnership between Sebastian and his banker—a bond that remains strong today. My journey with Galipo began in Stepney, where Sebastian’s transparency and integrity stood out. A true leader, he inspires others, drives action, and nurtures talent. His respect for employees and ability to help them grow is one of his greatest strengths. Congratulations on 40 years of outstanding service to the food industry!

Taki
Owner, Tuk’s Takeaway
Galipo Foods have been supplying our family shop for three generations, a total of 38 years. My mum recalls when Sebastian used to do the deliveries in the ’80s – he was always very friendly with a big smile on his face. I own the business now and I’m proud that my son has just started working here, too. While the times have changed since the 1980s, the service, reliability and friendliness of the Galipo Foods staff have remained at an exceptionally high standard.
Congratulation to Sebastian, Bill, John and all the team at Galipo Foods on 40 years.
Steve Liapis
Director, Liapis family group
The Liapis family has partnered with Galipo Foods for over 20 years through Aussie Ripper Roasts, Adelaide Event Catering, and Sunnybrae Estate. Our shared values—professionalism, family focus, and a client-first approach—have made working with Sebastian, John, Darren, Nathan, and the team a pleasure. Galipo’s quality, reliability, and exceptional service set them apart. Our partnership has grown beyond business into a lifelong friendship, and we look forward to many more years together.

Hosts, Triple M Sports Show
The greatest compliment we can pay you is that your staff love working with you. Our favourite story is about an employee who had the Galipo logo tattooed on his foot – now, that’s love!!
Steven Rowe
Host, 5aa Sports Show
I have had the pleasure of doing business with Galipo Foods through business printing, then servicing Galipo’s truck fleet with windscreens and then reading Galipo ads on 5aa. I’ve also been a Make-A-Wish volunteer where I’ve witnessed the generosity of Seb, Bill and his company. It’s no surprise they are an industry leader in the food service business, such is their character, integrity and commitment to community.
Congratulations on 40 years of service to the many restaurants, clubs and pubs I love. I am lucky to call the Galipo family a friend.
Leigh Warren
General Manager, Bleasdale Winery
One of my earliest experiences with Galipo was transitioning Red Bull distribution in SA. Later, while at Seawork Australia, I traveled to Namibia with Sebastian and Johnny to explore hand-filleting—plus some epic dune driving and oysters with bubbles! A few years later, over dinner at Chianti and Seb’s Hill of Grange, we planned a Cuba trip—Trinidad’s vibrant culture remains unforgettable. Now at Bleasdale, I’m proud to collaborate with Galipo, a true South Australian success story, and look forward to the future.
